Conclusion
Although this was one of the many Battles fought during the Civil War Gettysburg
was the turning point of this conflict. For the loss of life it was the worse,
more Americans died in the three days of the battle than died in any other
battle past or present.
The United States might have been a different place today if Lee’s forces had
won, and were able to march onto Washington. You could say this battle formed
the country we now know as United States their people, their politics. Out of it
came a Nation reconciled to one and other able to see each others point of view,
in general a more tolerant people. The great example of this was in a speech
given by Abraham Lincoln at the dedication of the war cemetery at Gettysburg in
the November of 1863. He was not going to be invited to the opening as at the
time he was not in favour with the government. The Speech was short but it was
one of the most prolific speeches ever given, it is now known as the Gettysburg
Address
